When it comes to skincare, it’s safe to say that a good moisturiser is fundamental. It’s the first cosmetic that we’re introduced to from a young age, with much emphasis placed on using this little miracle worker every day, indefinitely. But with so many products available and such a wealth of advice online, you can be left wondering; why is it important to moisturise and what are the actual benefits to our skin?

Benefits of Moisturising

The benefits of moisturising are vast and keeping skin hydrated not only helps us aesthetically, but also helps to maintain skin health. As your body’s largest organ, your skin is the barrier that protects you from the outside world, and so ensuring that it’s in optimum condition will not only mean it looks better, but that you’ll feel better too. Here at Mio, we’re huge advocates of keeping skin strong, so here are some of the key reasons that it’s important to moisturise:

Helps to keep skin hydrated

Much like the rest of our body, our skin needs water. Without it, it becomes dry and dehydrated and as such, prone to sensitivity, cracking and early-ageing. External factors such as changing weather, irritating fabrics or harsh heating systems can cause skin’s hydration levels to naturally drop and thus incorporating a body moisturiser into your daily routine helps to ensure that skin stays healthy and as hydrated as it should be.

Helps to prevent ageing

As previously mentioned, hydration is key in the fight against dull, ageing skin. Dehydrated skin accentuates wrinkles and unfortunately, as we get older, the skin slows down in its production of natural oils, meaning that maintaining the necessary moisture levels to keep skin plump and healthy becomes increasingly harder. Incorporating a body moisturiser into your morning ritual will help keep skin strong in the fight against wrinkles.

It makes you feel amazing

Not only does regularly moisturising make skin feel healthier, but it makes it look so much better. Nothing quite compares to that feeling of silky soft skin, and taking a little time for self-care can be pretty therapeutic too. Dedicating 5 minutes once you hop out of the shower to applying an all over body moisturiser can give you a moment for mental clarity, time to reflect on your day and enjoy a minute of silence.
